Summary
The collection contains writings, correspondence, and printed material by and relating to Bret Harte. Writings (boxes 1 and 2) consist of manuscript drafts of essays, plays, a poem, lecture, and review, including Unser Karl, "Jim", "Sue", Rushbrook", A Gilded Dust Cloud, Clarence, and The Argonauts of '49. Correspondence (boxes 1 and 2) consists of autograph letters, signed, between Harte and others, including Thomas Edgar Pemberton, James Ripley Osgood, Anna Harte, Frank E. Bliss, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, and Abby Langdon Alger. Printed material (boxes 3 and 4) consists of clippings of articles by Harte, and printed versions of writings about Harte, including reviews, profiles, printed images of Harte, and one photograph of Harte.
