Summary
Autograph manuscript account of voyages, adventures, and escapes by an unidentified Connecticut seaman between 1757 and 1781. The author describes several journeys made on privateering sloops and brigs operating between New England and the West Indies; the first sailed from Norwich, Connecticut. He writes of encounters at St. Barts, Barbados, and other islands, and of being imprisioned at Martinico (Martinique) and Antigua. The last page of the book bears two names, Lemuel Smith and Jonathan Buckland, inscribed repeatedly in hands different than that of the author. Inside the back cover is inscribed "J Griffeth."
