Biographical / Historical Note
Gilbert Phelps (1915-1993), English novelist and literary critic. Phelps was a producer and staff training instructor for the British Broadcasting Company, 1945-1960.
Elizabeth Myers (1912-1947), English author of short stories and novels. In 1943, Myers married Littleton Powys, a teacher and brother of authors John Cowper Powys (1872-1963) and Theodore Francis Powys (1875-1953). Littleton Powys edited The Letters of Elizabeth Myers (London: Chapman & Hall, 1951).

Autograph manuscript letters, signed, to Gilbert Phelps: from Elizabeth Myers, eight letters, 1946-1947, some with excerpts marked, possibly by Littleton Powys, about poems and other writings by Phelps, writings by Myers, and radio broadcasts concerning Myers and Littleton Powys produced by Phelps for the British Broadcasting Company; from John Cowper Powys, three letters, 1946 and 1958, about Phelps's writing and declining to make a radio broadcast; from Theodore Francis Powys, five letters, 1947 May-July, about Powys's writing and a visit by Phelps, and declining to make a radio broadcast; and from Littleton Powys, six letters, 1949-1953, mostly about Elizabeth Myers and Powys's editing of letters from her to Phelps.
