Biographical / Historical Note
Antoine Girard de la Bournat (1656-1702) was a French priest who was appointed to direct the education of Louis-Alexandre, comte de Toulouse by Louis XIV. He was named, successively, Bishop of Toul (1697) and Bishop of Boulogne and Poitiers (both in 1698). He died in 1702.
Summary
Manuscript copy, in a single cursive hand, of fifty letters of religious advice from Antoine Girard to various recipients. Many of the letters are addressed to an unnamed "ma chere fille" and offer guidance on the spiritual life. The letters are followed by several excerpts from Girard's writings.
