Biographical / Historical Note
Brothers Hans C. (1845-1904), Peter N. (1842-1918), and J. T. Marker emigrated from Denmark to Washoe County, Nevada, circa 1872. Initially, they opened a hay and grain business, later branching into lumber, wood, coal, and general merchandise. In 1875, Hans Marker moved to Lovelock, Nevada, purchasing 160 acres of land at "Big Meadows" after selling a flume to the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. He and his brother, Peter Marker, ran the Markers Ranch until 1892, which reached a size of 12,800 acres. Hans Marker also ran a nursery. Circa 1903, J. T. Marker ran the Big Meadow Meat Market. Ludwig N. Marker (1872-1950) worked as a blacksmith and lumber and hardware dealer in Lovelock circa 1904 to 1907; in 1906, he ran a hay, grain, lumber, and coal business with A. V. Marker. Ludwig Marker moved to Oakland, California, by 1915.
