Biographical / Historical Note
William Cecil, Lord Burghley (1520-1598) was an English statesman who was Queen Elizabeth I's chief advisor for much of her reign, serving first as Secretary of State (1558-1572) and then as Lord High Treasurer until his death in 1598.
Summary
Manuscript indenture, on parchment, in a professional secretary hand, containing a conveyance from Roger Sadler, gentleman, to William Cecil, Lord Burghley of the messuage of Fullers in Edmonton, Middlesex and of Drabbes Croft, also in Edmonton. With signature and attached red wax seal of Roger Sadler. Attached with red wax seal of Lord Burghley: a manuscript letter of attorney, on parchment, in Latin, in an unidentified secretary hand, signed "W. Burghley," from Burghley to his estate manager Barnard Dewhurst, instructing him to accept seisin of the lands on his behalf, 1586/1587 January 28. Also attached by the same seal: manuscript document, on paper, in English, in an unidentified secretary hand, headed "A note taken of some evidence remayninge in the custody of Roger Sadler touchinge landes in Edmonton ...". 1586/1587 February 17.
