Biographical / Historical Note
William Butterfield (1653-) was born in Preston Bissett, Buckinghamshire, England. He was admitted to Lincoln College at the University of Oxford in 1671.
Summary
Autograph manuscript notebook containing: an autobiography of William Butterfield, covering events in his and his family's life; diary entries by Butterfield, covering events in his life from 1673 until circa 1723, including his life at Lincoln College, University of Oxford; lists of his possessions, including his and his father's books, and items he brought with him to college; expenses for goods and services; recipes; and news of national events. Also included are passages in English and Latin from Ovid and Lucretius Canus. The notebook is interleaved with a printed almanac: The Oxford Almanack for the Year of Our Lord God 1673 ... Printed at the Theater, MDCLXXIII [1673] (ESTC R28280, variant collation).
