John Lewis Roget (1828-1908) was the son of Thesaurus compiler and physician Peter Mark Roget (1779-1869). He trained as a lawyer, was a watercolorist, and completed and published an enlarged edition of his father's Thesaurus in 1879.

Autograph manuscript diary and account of a journey in the Rhine River Valley and Switzerland undertaken by John Lewis Roget and members of his family, from 26 July-8 October, 1844. The diary includes descriptions of the journey as Roget travels from London through the Rhine River Valley in Belgium, France, and Germany to Switzerland; his travels throughout Switzerland and the Swiss portion of the Rhône River Valley; and a short visit to Milan, Italy. The account of the journey, titled Our Tour in Switzerland, is an edited version of part of the diary, and includes pen and ink sketches by Roget of various subjects, including: men met on the journey; the Rhine River at Koblenz; Heidelberg; Strasbourg; and views in the Swiss Alps. Some pages of this volume have been cut to remove text passages and sketches, probably by John Lewis Roget's son Samuel Romilly Roget, who in 1921 edited and published an illustrated survey of his family's travel journals, titled Travel in the Two Last Centuries of Three Generations.
