Summary
Autograph manuscript in several unidentified hands, containing extracts from legal documents, accounts, and other notes relating to land ownership in Weaver Bank, Cheshire, England, 1650s-1680s. Possibly in the hand of Thomas Lowe, of Tarvin, Cheshire, these entries contain references to “Thomas Lowe,” “Daniel Harrison,” “Thomas Mainwaring,” possibly Sir Thomas Mainwaring (1623-1689), and members of the Whittingham family. Undated poems in one or more additional unidentified 17th-century hands are “An elegie upon ye death of Mrs Margaret Barker,” of Overton, Shropshire; an untitled poem with first line “Viewing thy handy [wondrous] works oh Lord”; and an untitled poem with first line “Sweet was thy savoure while thou here lived,” by “Samuel Lindop.” Bound with fragments of a printed almanac, Angelus Britannicus: an ephemeris for the year of our redemption 1676, by John Tanner (London: Ratcliffe and Thompson, for the Company of Stationers, 1676); and Prognōstikon [Greek characters]: M.DC.LXXVI: an appendix to the preceding ephemeris or almanack (London: printed by A. Maxwell for the Company of Stationers, 1676). Later annotations in 18th-century hands include notes by “Caleb Lowe,” 1712 and undated; brief references to events of the Jacobite Rebellion, 1715; and ownership inscriptions by “Thomas Waine, Stapleford,” 1770-1771, and “Elizabeth Davenell.”
