Arna Bontemps (1902-1973), Black American teacher, writer, and librarian active in the Harlem Renaissance.
Summary
Screen treatment, typescript copy, of "Martin de Porres," which is set primarily in the 17th century and depicts scenes from the Peruvian friar's life and the process of recognizing him as a saint, ending with his 1837 beatification by Pope Gregory XVI. He is the patron saint of social justice, racial harmony, and mixed-race people. The Committee for Mass Education in Race Relations is noted on the title page.
