Yale University Library's James Weldon Johnson Memorial Collection of African American Arts and Letters was founded in 1941.

Autograph album with writing on four pages: an autograph title page; a page of 24 autograph signatures dated 1959 September 9, including those of Black vocalists, musicians, and composers such as William Warfield, Nora Holt, Betty Allen, Lawrence Winters, Camilla Williams, Carol Brice, Margaret Bonds, Charlotte Holloman and Margaret Tynes, Black visitors working in a variety of other fields, such as Charles Beaver, Moran Weston, Miriam Drake Weston, R. Edward Lee and Godfrey Nurse, as well as Carl Van Vechten, Fania Marinoff Van Vechten, and others; a page of 3 signatures dated 1960 February 10, including that of the Black Bishop William M. Philpot; and a page dated 1960 February 17 with inscriptions from Virginia H. Biddle and Margaret Bonds. Accompanying material found laid-in includes one 10 x 8 inch black-and-white photograph of Nora Holt, Lawrence Winter, and Betty Allen standing in front of Sterling Memorial Library, dated 1959 September 9, and one typescript transcript, with corrections, of the 24 autographs described previously.
