William Hayes Ward (1835-1916) was an American clergyman and editor of the New York Independent.
Summary
Collection of autograph letters, signed, addressed to William Hayes Ward from Mary Clemmer, Helen Hunt Jackson, Austin Phelps, and J. Hammond Trumbull relating to articles being published in The Independent. Includes manuscript poems: “In Harbor” by Louise Bushnell; “Her Choice” by Lucy Larcom; “A Question” by Elizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward; and “Susan Coolidge” by Sarah Chauncey Woolsey. Also includes a letter from H. C. Bowen discussing personal matters relating to Henry Ward Beecher; and a newspaper clipping describing the recent divorce of author Mary Clemmer.
