Biographical / Historical Note
The Sitwells were a literary family from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. Members included Edith Sitwell (1887-1964), Osbert Sitwell (1892-1969), and Sacheverell Sitwell (1897-1988). Sacheverell Sitwell was married to Georgia Sitwell (1905 or 1906-1980).
Doris I. Farquhar served as private nurse to the British writer Edith Sitwell (1887-1964).
Summary
Collection of correspondence addressed to Doris I. Farquhar from members of the Sitwell family. Includes an autograph manuscript letter and an autograph manuscript postcard, signed, from Georgia Sitwell discussing family matters and the holidays; eight typescript letters and one autograph manuscript letter, signed, from Osbert Sitwell discussing Edith Sitwell’s estate and the family pets, specifically cats; and three autograph manuscript letters, signed, from Sacheverell Sitwell discussing the death of Osbert Sitwell.
