البداية مفقودة. يبدأ النص بـِ: "... مشتملة على قواعد عقائد [و]فرائد فوائد لهج بها جمعٌ غفير، وولع بها من أهل الإيمان كثير، من صغيرٍ وكبير، ولم أجد لها شرحًا سوى شرح النجم بن قاضي عجلون، سقى الله (من صيّب العفو) ثراه وجعل الجنةَ مأوانا ومأواه، وسنح في فكري غير مرةٍ أن ألحقه بمهمات، وأوشّحه بمتمّمات، عسى الله أن يجعلني ممّا قال فيهم البشير النذير، السراج المنير، صلى الله عليه وسلم: إذا مات ابن آدم انقطع عمله الّا من ثلاث، صدقة جارية، أو، علم ينتفع به، أو، ولد صالح يدعو له ..."

Qāla, ṣallá Allāh ʻalayhi: al-Madīnah khayr lahum law kānū yaʻlamūn. Wa-qāl: al-Madīnah tanfī khabathahā, al-Ḥadīth. Wa-hādhihi danānīrukum, in shiʼtum fa-khudhūhā wa-in shiʼtum fa-daʻūhā. Wa-lammā ḥumilat ilayhi al-amwāl al-kathīr min aṭrāf al-dunyā li-intishār ʻilmihi wa-aṣḥābihi, kāna yufarriquhā fī wujūh al-khayr, ḥattá wahab al-Shāfiʻī mā raʼāhu ʻalá bābihi min kirāʻ khayl Khurāsān wa-bighāl Miṣr, wa-istaḥsanahu, fa-qāla li-Mālik: Mā aḥsanahu. Fa-qāl: Huwa hibah minnī ilayk. Fa-qāla la-hu: Daʻ li-nafsika minhā dābbah tarkabuhā, fa-qāl ..."
الخاتمة. لا يوجد خاتمة. ينتهي النص فجأةً، كما يلي: "... وقد قال، صلى الله عليه وسلم: اختلاف أمّتي رحمة. والخروج معك لا سبيل إليه. قال، صلى الله عليه: المدينة خير لهم لو كانوا يعلمون. وقال: المدينة تنفي خبثها، الحديث. وهذه دنانيركم، إن شئتم فخذوها وإن شئتم فدعوها. ولما حملت إليه الأموال الكثير من أطراف الدنيا لانتشار علمه وأصحابه، كان يفرّقها في وجوه الخير، حتى وهب الشافعي ما رآه على بابه من كراع خيل خراسان وبغال مصر، واستحسنه، فقال لمالك: ما أحسنه. فقال: هو هبة مني إليك. فقال له: دع لنفسك منها دابة تركبها، فقال ..."

"Bayān al-maʻānī fī sharḥ ʻAqīdat al-Shaybānī" (Explanation of the meanings in the commentary on the doctrine of al-Shaybānī), a treatise on Islamic doctrines, by ʻAlī ibn ʻAṭīyah al-Ḥamawī, nicknamed ʻUlwān (or ʻAlwān), a Shāfiʻī Islamic law scholar and Sufi; born, grew up, and died in Ḥamāh (Syria), whose family hails from Hīt (Iraq), a town on the Euphrates, hence his other surname "al-Hītī"; being a commentary on "al-ʻAqīdah" (Doctrine), a treatise in verse by Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Shaybānī (approximately 750-804 or 805), a leading Ḥanafī Islamic law scholar, originally from the village of Ḥarastah in Ghūṭat Dimashq (Syria), born in Wāsiṭ (Iraq), grew up in Kūfah where he studied with Abū Ḥanīfah, moved to Baghdad and was appointed by Hārūn al-Rashīd to the position of Qaḍāʼ al-Raqqah, then deposed. The present manuscript is incomplete; the beginning and end are missing. Name of copyist and place and date of copying not mentioned, probably from the 18th century.
