Summary
Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, consisting of about 27 poems, 30 letters, and several short Latin tracts on oratory. Secular, apolitical poems include "A dialogue betwixt a black boy and a fair wench," "A young man to an ould woman courting him," "Upon the death of Mr. King," "Upon a Hermaphrodite," and "The Author to his Hermaphrodite, made after Mr. Randolph's death yet inserted in his Poems." The volume also includes numerous political poems, including "Smectymus," The Rebell Scot," "Upon the king's happy returne out of Scotland," and "The King's Disguise." Includes a copy of a letter signed by Cleveland "To the Protector," as well as copies of other letters in English and Latin "to the Lady Bowes," "Ad Doctorem Newell," and "Ad Episcopum Dunelmensem."
