Summary
Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of hymns and religious prose extracts. The volume begins with forty hymns, many of them taken from John Austin's Devotions in the Ancient Lay of Offices. The hymns are followed by a compilation of several dozen religious meditative extracts titled "Meditations Prayers & Discourses (collected out of the life of James Bonnell Esq late accomptant General of Ireland who dyed April 28, 1699." These extracts have been taken from the Exemplary Life and Character of James Bonnell by William Hamilton, and include such headings as To excite our love to God; Of almsgiving; Rejoicing in the approach of sickness; Of self denial in small matters; and Of the true and false signs of devotion.
