Bound volume, Spanish manuscript in ink in a single Italic hand, titled "Ojeada economica politica sobre el estado de las naciones de Europa en el año de 1818." The manuscript is a detailed economic profile of Europe during the period following the defeat of Napoleon in 1815, analyzing the impact on the Spanish economy. Sections deal with the United States as well as with European holdings in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Primarily composed of comprehensive summaries of each European country's economic status, population, industry, and commercial relations with other nations, with emphasis on changes related to France's decline and Great Britain's ascent to political and economic power. Largest section concerns Britain, and includes comments on the English trade with India and China as well as English relations with Latin America. Other countries discussed include France, Portugal and Brazil, Germany, Austria, the Low Countries, Sweden, Denmark, Prussia, Italy, the Ottoman empire, and Algeria. Seven pages concern the United States, including detailed information on European emigration to New York and Philadelphia and changes in American shipping regulations and customs procedures. Nine folding tables provide economic and trade statistics for England and France, as well as an 1818 population census for France by département.
