Summary
Manuscript fair copy, in a single cursive hand, of a history of the area known as "Gloucester Fee" in Northamptonshire, England. After two general historical chapters, the author traces the complex feudal land tenure histories of every village and subordinate holding, along with the fees and privileges pertaining to each, from Domesday Book to 1729. The extensive appendix contains translations of many of the original grants, patents and other legal instruments, as well as a few transcriptions. The feudal rights to these villages were purchased by Lord Montagu of Boughton in the early 17th century, and Hornby carefully documents the extent and significance of these.
