Collection contains letters, manuscripts, and other material. Correspondence includes: one letter to Allen from Edith J. R. Isaacs regarding publication of Allen's essay "America's First First" in Theatre Arts Monthly; three autograph letters from Allen to John J. Snyder discussing the essay and research on Poe; one letter from Allen to James T. Babb; one letter from Allen to George H. Hamilton; and third party letters from Hamilton to Chauncey Brewter Tinker and from Farrar, Straus and Company to Norman Holmes Pearson. Manuscripts and other materials include draft and printed versions of Allen's essay "America's First First" and a notebook relating to his novel Anthony Adverse, with outlines, draft pages, drawings, letters from the publisher Farrar & Rinehart, and a memorandum of agreement.
