Biographical / Historical Note
James Lea Lattimore (1812-1851), the enslaver and seller, was born in Mississippi and moved to Louisiana where he became a school teacher. He was the son of Dr. William Lattimore (1774-18430, U.S. Representative from Mississippi Territory for the 8th, 9th, 13th and 14th Congresses.
Nathanial Amacker (1811-1881) was a farmer in St. Helena Parish.
Shephard B. Draughon was a notary public and justice of peace for St. Helena Parish for many years.
Summary
Bill of transfer from James L. Lattimore to Nathaniel Amacker for an enslaved man named Lindsey, which was filed in the office of S.B. Draughon Recorder on August 5th, 1848. The enslaved man is described in the document as "a negro man named Lindsey of griff-complexion aged about 58 years."
