Biographical / Historical

An advisory committee of alumni and Yale Corporation members was appointed by Yale President A. Whitney Griswold to survey "the intellectual and spiritual welfare" of the university, its students, and its faculty; the chair was the Reverend Henry Sloane Coffin (Yale College Class of 1897).
