Les noces is a ballet for solo voices (SATB), chorus, 4 pianos & 6 percussionists; The Russian peasant songs are performed twice, in the original unacc. version & in the 1954 arr. with 4 horns. The motets & The Dove descending are for unacc. chorus (SATB); T.S. Eliot in memoriam is for male voices & instrumental ensemble; Tres sacrae cantiones are for unacc. chorus; the originals have missing parts, which were reconstructed by Stravinsky.
Sung in the original languages.
Five bridal folk songs from the Voronezh district, as collected by Galina Tkachova, is included as "examples of the type of folk material which Stravinsky ... drew upon [in Les noces]"--Notes, p. 4.
Compact disc.
