Biographical / Historical Note
The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations was held in London in 1851.
William Paxon (b. 1802) was secretary of the Hampstead Committee for the Great Exhibition, and was an exhibitor of a "Lunarian, with improved contrivance for showing the phases of the moon."
Summary
Scrapbook containing circa 600 pieces of ephemera and other material relating to the Great Exhibition. Most contents are printed advertisements for exhibitors from Great Britain, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States. Also present are printed or manuscript labels for exhibits; printed forms and passes, some completed in manuscript, issued to exhibitors by the Exhibition's Executive Committee; printed advertisements for publications and lithographs relating to the Exhibition; textile samples from exhibit stall coverings; autograph letters, signed, to Paxon concerning the Hampstead Committee; and manuscript notes and lists of exhibitors, possibly written by Paxon.
