First work uses music from Vaughan Williams' film score for the 1947 film "Scott of the Antarctic"; 2nd work is an orchestral suite arr. from his incidental music for Aristophanes' play.
Originally issued on analog discs in 1968 & 1970, respectively.
Previously released on compact disc.
The vocal parts in the symphony are textless. There are literary superscriptions for each movement, not set, but to be read by the listener, from Shelley, Coleridge, Donne, Psalm 104 & Scott's Antarctic journal.
Recorded in Kingsway Hall, London, Nov. 18-21, 1969 (1st work) & Sept. 23-25, 1968 (2nd work).
