Summary
This report contains detailed descriptions of the Women's International Zionist Organization's activities between October 1923 and July 1925, some in Yiddish. It begins with a brief history of WIZO and discusses the organization's impact after fifteen years of activity supporting settlement efforts in Palestine, particularly in the realm of women's work. The organization expanded from a primarily British base to include affiliated organizations in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Estonia, France, Holland, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Austria, Poland and Romania. Each of these societies provided individual country reports in this volume. Despite financial difficulties, the WIZO central bureau in London created international propaganda for the group, including nine newsletter issues published in English, German and Yiddish between 1923 and 1925. The report notes that while official cooperation between WIZO members and other Zionist organizations was limited, some WIZO members were involved with the Jewish National Fund (KKL) and maintained a working relationship with the American group Hadassah and the Union of Jewish Women's Organizations in Palestine (Histadruth Naschim Ibrioth). The report contains a detailed chart of the 1923-1925 WIZO budgets, constitution and bylaws. It concludes with an evaluation of WIZO work in Palestine, including the creation of girls' schools, workers' kitchens and a hostel. The hostel opened in Tel-Aviv in 1922 and was led by Hannah Maisel-Schochat until Miriam Gerzon took over after 1923. The hostel report lists the current positions of former hostel students in Palestine.
