Summary
Discusses issues related to the Compact of Free Association between the U.S. and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) and the U.S. and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), focusing on U.S. financial assistance to RMI and FSM for economic development and other purposes that is scheduled to expire at the end of 2003. Evaluates assistance provided under the Compact, extent to which Compact funding has achieved original goals of economic development and self-sufficiency, and status of negotiations to reauthorize the Contract.
