Summary
A circular bronze medal struck in honor of M. Chevreul on the occasion of his 100th birthday, August 31,1886. On the medal's obverse is a head and shoulder relief portrait of Chevreul. On the reverse side is an allegorical relief representing the youth of France standing before the seated honoree. A scroll beneath the chair lists the four works by which Chevreul was best known: Corps gras, Contraste simultane des couleurs, Chemie appliquée à la teinture, and Vision des couleurs. Chevreul's contributions to the science of color, originating in part with his involvement in the French textile dyeing industry, later influenced art movements such as Impressionism.
