Biographical / Historical Note
Charlotte Hodges Morton (1787-1873), American poet, was born in Taunton, Massachusetts. She married Marcus Morton (1784-1864), a lawyer, jurist, and politician, on December 23, 1807.
Summary
The papers are comprised of an autograph manuscript notebook and correspondence. The notebook dates from 1804 to 1838 and contains poems by Morton and a few poems by other poets, most in unidentified hands. Correspondence consists of an autograph letter, signed, from her son, Nathaniel Morton (May 14, 1842) and three autograph letters, signed from D. C. Isham (October 25, 1828 - April 26, 1830) of New Haven, Connecticut.
