Isaac Hayes (1942-2008), African American composer and actor.
Summary
The Isaac Hayes papers are comprised of materials relating to Hayes' work on the films Truck Turner (1974), Shaft (1971), and Tough Guys (1974). "Theme from Shaft," composed by Hayes, printed vocal score (Memphis: East/Memphis Music Corporation, 1971) can be found in the collection. Items relating to Truck Turner include: two drafts of scripts with uninserted page changes and ten color photographs of Hayes and other cast members. Hayes' work composing the soundtrack for Truck Turner can be seen in an autograph manuscript score for "Annie Goes to Jail" with notes about synchronization with the film. The papers include autograph manuscript timesheets recording Hayes' work for Tough Guys dating from September to October 1974. The papers also include production requirements and a map relating to Hayes' appearance in an episode of the television series The Rockford Files (1975) titled "Hammer of C Block." A folder embossed with "Isaac Hayes" and "Bass" is also in the papers.
