Summary
Contains autograph manuscript scores and sketches of Thomson's musical compositions and correspondence with Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. Correspondence includes photocopies, transcripts, carbons, notes, and printed material.
Box 1 contains music by Thomson, autograph manuscript: Alice Toklas, for violin and piano, 1930 March 24; Miss Gertrude Stein, for solo violin, 1928 October 14; Piano Sonata No. 3, dated at Palma de Mallorca, 1930 July 17-18; and songs for voice and piano: Lady Godiva's Waltzes 1928 April 29; Portrait of F. B. by Gertrude Stein, 1927 October-1929 September; Preciosililla, recitative and aria, text by Gertrude Stein, 1927 February; Susie Asado, text by Gertrude Stein, 1926 April; and an unidentified song from the film Deux soeurs qui sont pas soeurs, 1930 September 3. Also present is Russell Hitchcock-Reading, for piano, autograph manuscript facsimile, 1930 March 29.
Box 2 contains an autograph manuscript vocal score for a tenor air omitted from published version of Four Saints in Three Acts, Act III, of the parts of St. Chavez and St. Ignatius with piano accompaniment, undated.
Box 3 contains correspondence, original and photcopies, with Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas and others. Also includes notes and printed material, dating 1929 to 1987.
