Notes
Attribution varies. M.L. Cohen, in his Bibliography of early American law, no. 5965, suggests Joseph Trumbull, a Hartford lawyer, banker and Whig, later the governor of Connecticut. The Encyclopedia Americana: a history of useful knowledge, 1918, v. 6, page 129 attributes the work to a B. Trumbull. Possibly Benjamin Trumbull, (1769-1850) a lawyer at Colchester, Conn. and a Representative in the Connecticut Legislature, 1807-1831.
