Jacques Alexandre César Charles and Nicolas-Louis Robert piloted the first manned balloon flight, 1783 December 1, from the Jardin des Tuileries, Paris, to Val-d'Oise.
Summary
Vue d'optique of Jacques Alexandre César Charles and Nicolas-Louis Robert in a balloon above spectators in the Jardin des Tuileries. The engraving has been hand-colored with watercolors, and perforations in windows of buildings and other locations are backed with translucent paper. The caption title is partially cut off, with some fragments affixed to the verso. Other papers attached to the verso include unidentified manuscript notes.
