Summary
Revealing size and stateliness as the crucial features of an official residence, this video travels to Kingsmere and Government House in Canada and to Canada House in France. The home of the Speaker of the House of Commons, Kingsmere began as a farmhouse and has grown into a country estate. Government House, the oldest official residence in Canada, was built to reflect the importance of the first Lieutenant Governor. Canada House, the Canadian embassy, was once the home of a noble Parisian family and includes features that date from the 18th century.
