"The book is based on the full interview with Wilhelm Brasse for "The Portraitist"--a documentary by Irek dobrowolski. Additional materials and stories included in teh book are the result of teh author's research into the experiences of other prisoners, collected and kept at the archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum (APMA-B) since 1954. Those stores are recorded in 165 volues of "Testimonials" ("Zespół Oświadzenia") and 275 volumes of "Memoirs" ("Zespół wspomnienia") which contain over 5,300 thousand [sic] official accounts by former prisoners, witnesses of events, forced laborers and depositions given by the Nazi crew members at their trial in Krakow, 1947 (Proces ZO). The book includes also prisoners' recollections from their own memoirs, referenced by the author."--Colophon.
