Biographical / Historical Note
H. Boylston Dummer was an American painter and illustrator. Dummer was born in 1878 in Rowley, Massachusetts. His illustrations were published regularly in The Youth's Companion, The Boston Post, and the Christian Science Monitor as well as in children's books. His weekly series of illustrated adventure stories "Animal Town Aviators," published in the Christian Science Monitor, was later published in two volumes as Adventures of the Animal Town aviators: good will trip around the world (Boston, Mass. : The Christian Science Publishing Society, 1989). He died in Beverley, Massachusetts in 1945.
Summary
Small typewritten movable book in the shape of a robin with watercolor illustrations throughout. The volume's covers, hand-painted in ink and watercolor, depict a robin in flight with wings that fold open to reveal the robin's red feathered belly and the underside of the wings. The volume, written in rhyme, tells the story of Mary, a young girl who befriends robins nesting in a tree outside her bedroom window.
