Op. 70 was published for "horn, violin or cello, & piano", but is also frequently played on oboe. The posthumously published Violin sonata ("No 3") originated as a joint composition, in honor of Joseph Joachim, by Schumann, Brahms & Albert Dietrich, which Schumann later completed by himself (see Notes, p. 24).
