|a The "Antiquitates" is a part of a projected edition of Josephus' complete works, planned by Bishop Feli and the editor to be published by the University of Oxford. The printing was begun in 1691, but divergencies of opinion as to the mode of editing caused the curators of the University to discontinue it. Several years later an attempt to publish it, made by three Oxford booksellers, failed owing to the political disturbances of the times. It was finally published in this imperfect condition (the fifth book ending abruptly in the midst of a sentence in the first chapter, p. 352) with a new t.p., and with parts of the Bellum judaicum (lib. I. II. cap. l-xiv) appended--cf. Fabricius. Bibl. gracca. t.5, p. 42-43; Josephi opera rec. S. Havercampus, Amstelaedami, 1726, t. I, p. 4-7.

|a The Latin translation of the Antiquitates, printed with the text in parallel columns, is the pseudo-Rufinian, by Bernard and others ascribed to Epiphanius Scholasticus. The translation of the Bellum judaicum is, by some authorities, attributed to Rufinus Aquilciensis.
