Summary
Film about the 1979 peace agreement between Israel and Egypt. The documentary portrays the Israelis as aggressors seeking to build a 'greater Israel' through the conquest of Arab lands. The Palestinians are an oppressed people forced out by this aggression; an aggression which is supported by the United States and its imperialist ambitions. The film comes to portray Anwar Sadat as the traitor of the Arab world, sacrificing the Palestinian cause and the good of his own people in return for the aid and backing of the West for himself. Sequences cut between scenes of him laughing, signing the treaty and winning the Nobel Peace Prize. These are juxtaposed with images of Israeli air strikes, Palestinian hardship and uprisings among his own people. As well as footage of Israeli military aggression and international conferences, the documentary features brief interviews with Arab leaders and US citizens. It touches on a variety of issues in the Middle East, from the Americans' need for oil and military allies, to the Iranian Revolution.
