Summary
Feature film about the attempts of a group of Red Army soldiers and their families to escape encirclement by the White Guard by marching across the Caucasian mountains. [WARNING: contains distressing scenes of execution and victims of warfare.]. From the novel by Alexander Serafimovitch and based on a true story, the film presents the extreme struggles experienced by Red Army soldiers and peasants as they march to re-join the main Red Army. Includes a dramatic and powerful finale in which the peasants, armed only with farming equipment, join forces to confront an approaching army of Cossacks.
