Biographical / Historical Note
"Queen Victoria was the first reigning British monarch since Charles I to visit Scotland (apart from a fleeting visit by George IV to Edinburgh in 1822). Her holidays there and the rebuilding of Balmoral were inextricably linked with Prince Albert, and on his death she re-read her Scottish diaries constantly. After suggestion that others would find them as refreshing and rewarding as she did, they were prepared for publication and appeared in two private editions from 1865, followed by [a] public edition in 1868."--Royal Collection Trust.
