Biographical / Historical Note
The National Farm Workers Association (later, the United Farm Workers of America) was formed in 1962 by César Chávez in a move to support the rights of the working-class population through political activity.
Summary
Materials from National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) strikes and picketing in California, circa 1960s. Includes manuscript poster outlining picket rules, printed and manuscript posters for the Delano grape strike, printed NFWA strike poster, and crayon illustration in support of strikers. Also included are typescript and ink illustration drafts for posters and flyers. Present are a manuscript letter to “Dorothy” concerning the grape strike, 1965 October 18; manuscript obituary for an unidentified individual, undated; and crayon illustration of strikers from Tamar Nelson to “Gene”, undated. Accompanied by a printed Do Not Enter sign from County of Tulare Building Department, undated.
