Summary
A gala session of the Central Committee of the Soviet Communist Party to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Soviet Union in December 1922. [WARNING: Contains distressing footage.]. Heads of state from Soviet Republics, Eastern Bloc countries and other Socialist nations pay tribute to the realisation of the ideals of Marx and Lenin. The film highlights the development of Socialist nations since 1922 as well as Soviet policies of peaceful co-existence, friendship and co-operation, and military defence and disarmament strategies. Includes archive footage of life following the Civil War, and the first All-Union Congress of Soviets at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1922. Also includes footage of contemporary workers, industry and construction, as well as scenes of revolution in other countries, peace protests, and footage depicting the arms race.
