Summary
A feature on the World Congress of Women, which was held in East Berlin in 1975 as part of International Women's Year. 2,000 delegates from countries across the globe attend the World Congress of Women for five days in October 1975. Valentina Tereshkova gives a speech at the beginning of the Congress with well-wishes from state leaders such as Indira Gandhi, Fidel Castro, Yasser Arafat and Archbishop Makarios III. Freda Brown, the Australian political activist also gives a speech outlining the keys aims of the Congress. The delegates take a tour of East Germany, visiting Second World War memorials and Buchenwald Concentration Camp.
