Biographical / Historical Note
Cicero Rufus Perry (1822-1898) of Montgomery, Alabama, was a volunteer soldier in the Texas Army and a Texas Ranger. He participated in the Siege of Bexar (1835), Battle of Walker's Creek (1844), and the Battle of Deer Creek (1873). He also participated in the Somervell Expedition (1842), which was ordered by President of the Republic of Texas Sam Houston as a punitive measure following Mexican raids on San Antonio. Perry was appointed captain of Company D of the Frontier Battalion in 1874.
Summary
Autograph notebook, signed, of Cicero Rufus Perry providing an account of his career as Texas Ranger, written after 1874. Perry notes his participation in various battles and expeditions and encounters with Native Americans and Mexican peoples in Texas and northern Mexico, along the Rio Grande, between 1833 and 1874. Accompanied by a typescript letter, signed, from Louis Lenz to Bessie Lee Fitzhugh concerning a transcription of Perry's writing, 1955 September 25.
