The Dowdle Family, a joint-stock company, consisted of 11 individuals: William Miller, J. A. Henricks, D. W. C. Willonghby, E. S. Reynolds, W. L. Woodward, M. B. Miller, Cyrenius Johnson, W. J. Snavely, William Maslin, George Pierson, and John Linderman. On 1849 March 22, the company left South Bend, Indiana, to mine gold in San Francisco, California.
