Summary
The major political parties are the focus of this survey. Respondents were asked to evaluate whether the Democratic or Republican party would do a better job of handling inflation, unemployment, foreign trade problems, the federal budget deficit, and new problems that may arise in the future, and whether either party would be more likely to keep the United States out of war and keep defenses strong. Respondents also were asked to identify which party has more money, is more organized, and cares more about the needs of big business, women, labor unions, farmers, and blacks. In addition, respondents were asked who they considered to be the important leaders of each party and if there were any groups within each party that concerned them. Other items include the respondent's party identification and voting history, Ronald Reagan's performance as President, big corporations, government corruption, the United States Supreme Court, and abortion. Demographic characteristics also are included.Cf: http://doi.org/10.3886/ICPSR08690.v3
