James Leon Brown (1872-1958) and William Winsor Hopkins (1867-1961) owned a general store in Chepatchet, Rhode Island, 1921-1964, later the Brown & Hopkins Country Store.
Summary
Manuscript records of the United States Post Office in Chepatchet, Rhode Island, 1907-1910, kept by postmaster "James L. Brown," possibly James Leon Brown (1872-1958). Records are recorded on printed forms in a volume titled "Official Postmaster's Account and Record book, 4th class, form 1558 1/2" (copyright 1887, by Charles W. Miller). Records include inventories of stamps and other supplies; daily logs of sales and stamp cancellations; quarterly accounts; accounts for post office box rentals, with names of renters; and lists of unclaimed items, with names of addressees.
