Summary
James Clouser, composer, choreographer, premier danseur and Ballet Master of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, performs on the piano and dances to music of his own composition. Mr. Clouser partners N.Y. City Opera Ballet dancer Alexandra Nadal in his choreography for Recurrence, a fusion of classical and modern dance, and dances with N.Y. City Opera Ballet dancer Sandra Balestracci in his own composition Etude in White. Clouser coaches both dancers in his choreography to a piece by Bach, a piece they have not rehearsed. This is a good illustration of how classical dance steps form a vocabulary that can be combined, by the experienced dancer, to construct new pieces. Clouser discusses his own career and work methods with Walter Terry, dance critic for the N.Y. Herald Tribune, who comments on the role of the choreographer. 1965.
