Biographical / Historical Note
Edwin Paul Hofacker (1892-1980) attended Washington State Normal School in Ellensburg, training as a civil engineer and surveyor. In 1917, Hofacker became a timber cruiser for Kittitas County. He served in the United States Navy from 1918 to 1921; following his service, he worked for Standard Oil in Portland, Oregon.

Scrapbook compiled by Edwin Paul Hofacker documenting his surveying career with the Kettle Valley Railway Line, Alaska Railroad, and the White Pass & Yukon route; as well as his time as a timber cruiser for Kittitas County, Washington, and as an employee of Standard Oil, circa 1910-1950. 291 photographs and postcards depict surveyors, camp scenes, construction projects, steamships, landscape views, and unidentified men, women, and children. Among the identified towns are Dawson, Yukon; and Circle, Nenana, Skagway, and Tanana, Alaska. Included are Hofacker’s recruiting station certificate and registration card for his enlistment in the United States Navy. There are also 48 greeting cards given to Hofacker for birthdays and Fathers’ Days.
