Biographical / Historical Note
Ladell Stark Humes (1875 or 1876-1917) of Kansas was the son of Thomas J. Humes (Mayor of Seattle, 1897-1904) and Alma Roberts; he married Minnie Bell Vedder (1876- ) in 1902. A miner and clerk, Ladell Humes lived in Seattle, Washington, circa 1899 to 1917. He also worked as a postal carrier in Alaska during the early 20th century.
Summary
Photographs collected by Ladell Stark Humes of the Klondike region of the Yukon, as well as other areas in Alaska and Yukon Territory, circa 1865-1939. Photographers chiefly represented in the collection include William Howard Case, Case & Draper, Robert Collier, and A. W. Hall. Depicted are Native American men, women, and children; gold mining efforts; and town and landscape views.
Also present are stereographs produced by the Keystone View Company of Inuit men, women, and children of Kwigillingok, Alaska; and pages of a printed work created by an unknown creator about Alaska.
